Land for Learning Center

Your contributions towards land purchase for a Strength for the Journey learning center have been generous. We now have funds saved to buy an inexpensive piece of land. Locating property has been ongoing. We continue to search for the right location, size, and price. Buying titled land in the Dominican Republic is not easy, but we are making some headway. Hopefully, by the next newsletter, we will have good news.

The main story

While public schools remained closed in 2020-21, Strength for the Journey continues to teach. The great outdoors, churches, and community centers serve as our classrooms. Although class sizes are more limited, we still accomplished much this past year.

We taught in 10 mountain communities
130 students enrolled in our classes
Our teachers dedicated 600 hours educating children

Learning for All Children

Public schools in Jamao do not have teachers or classes to address special needs of some children, but Strength for the Journey is inclusive. Our classes include adolescents who cannot read, children with learning disabilities, and those with physical limitations. We help each child, adjusting activities and objectives to meet the child's needs. Yet, we also encourage, hold high expectations, and teach each child that that he/she has the potential to succeed. THAT is Strength for the Journey!

Who is Strength for the Journey?

YOU, of course! And all the SFTJ kids throughout Jamao. But also, our teachers make us the best option for learning, giving, and helping in Jamao. Our results are the proof in the pudding!
