The Gift of Water
One gift changing lives for today and the future

The main story

The community of Arroyo Frio, high in the mountains of Jamao, has always depended on rain water collected in barrels as their only water source.  During the dry summer months when rains don't fall, water is not available.  A donation by Dr. David and Pat George changed that.

A committee of Jamao leaders working across political and religious lines, the local city government, and the water company worked together to install a water line to providing running water for the residents of Arroyo Frio.
Community members provided all the labor, digging trenches and installing pipes.  The women did their part, on hand with water and meals for the workers.

And for the first time ever, families can now turn on the tap and enjoy water to cook, clean, bathe, and wash!

Every peso of this donation was used for materials.  Not one peso for labor!  When people work together, great things can happen.

That is Strength for the Journey!

SFTJ Truck Helps Save Lives

The corona virus knows no boundaries.  In the isolated village of Las Espinas, far from other communities, someone contracted corona virus.  Strength for the Journey assists transporting local medical professionals who travel to outlying areas and go house-to-house providing health care to the extreme poor, the elderly and those who cannot otherwise reach medical care. Because of our help with transportation, this corona virus patient was able to receive daily care until he tested clear.  Although our truck, donated by the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, was originally intended for educational purpose, we are grateful to expand its use during these challenging times to help save lives.

SFTJ Donation Center Goes Mobil

The majority of Jamao residents in remote mountain communities do not have access to transportation to travel to our donation center, El Centro de Compartir. Thus, this month, we made the center mobil and made "shopping" available to them!  Each person in Los Moluces walked away with several pieces of clothing and other items and each child received a pair of Crocs.  Everyone was excited to go home with something "new."
